What are the course requirements for NAVIGATE?
- Attend all 5 Treks (including Extreme Trek)
- Drivers licence preferred
- Some students may be required to complete a Working With Children check dependant on the Traineeship they undertake
- 3 hours per week completing assessment tasks
What does NAVIGATE consist of?
NAVIGATE consists of 5 Treks within a 12 month period. It can also be done in conjunction with a university course over 2 years.
Trek 1 - Monday 1 February - Sunday 7 February 2010: Live-in experience at The Tops and South Coast.
Navigating - through the Bible, the Life of Christ & Focused LivingTrek 2 - Sunday 18 April - Saturday 24 April 2010: North Coast Exploring & Experiencing the history, culture, mission and ministry.
Navigating the themes of the Bible and the lives of Spiritual Heroes - their influence on His-story.
Trek 3 - Sunday 27 June - Saturday 3 July 2010: Exploring - Australia's Capital and Snowy.
Navigating contemporary issues - meeting leaders of influence; developing and discipling leaders.
Trek 4 - Saturday 18 September 2010 - Sunday 26 September 2010 : Exploring the Outback to Broken Hill (beyond the Black Stump).
Navigating through culture - gaining understanding and reading the differences in our culture in context.
Trek 5 - Saturday 20 November - Saturday 4 December 2010: Extreme Trek - 2 weeks cross cultural experience - 16 hours culture - gaining understanding and reading culture. Team building.
Online learning platform e.g. weekly Blog, mentoring and coaching processed with Fresh Hope leaders.
Choose one ministry area to specialize in and develop a skill set:
- Youth
- Children, community camping, team leadership
- Camping, hospitality and outdoor education, team leadership
- Welfare, Aged Care
What qualifications do I end up with at the conclusion of NAVIGATE?
Satisfactory completion of the course fulfils the requirements of Certificate in Christian Ministry and Theology. This qualification is recognised nationally under The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQTF). The Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology consists of one year of full time study and is comprised of nine competencies.
Cert IV in Christian Ministry and Theology is a registered Apprenticeship.
What qualifications do I need to do NAVIGATE?
NAVIGATE is aimed at people 18 - 23 years of age. It is anticipated that participants will have completed year 12.
NAVIGATE is for 18 - 23 year olds who:
- are passionate about experiencing Jesus and His Kingdom her and now; right where you live and breathe
- have a "whatever it takes" attitude as a disciple of Jesus
- want to grow deeper, absorbing God's living word so it influences thinking and behaviour
- want to become skilled in an area of ministry or mission
- are keen to be spiritual leaders
Is NAVIGATE only for people who attend a Churches of Christ?
The course is primarily aimed at training young leaders that have some association with Churches of Christ. However, other applications will be considered.
Is NAVIGATE a year of pressured intensive learning?
NAVIGATE is a year of intensive learning PLUS challenges, PLUS a load of fun.
It is a time to set in place spiritual trig points and bearings for the rest of your life.
It's a time to NAVIGATE a God focused life.
It's a time for friendships, challenges, experiences and growth.
How much does it cost to participate in NAVIGATE?
Approx. $2750.00 + airfares
Is there any Government assistance available?
Individuals may qualify for Austudy, Abstudy or Youth Allowance depending on their circumstances through an application to
Centrelink. Students should apply directly to their local Centrelink office.
How do I defer my Uni course?
Deferment means that you have received an offer to enrol in a course but have been given permission by the institution to delay the start of the course for a fixed period, which is usually six months or one year.
This means that if you receive an offer to study in 2009 and defer for one year, you will start your studies in 2010. All deferments are granted subject to the course being offered the following semester or following year.
